Another Study, Similar Conclusion

John Stuart Mill

Image via Wikipedia

I never meant to say that the Conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it. - John Stuart Mill -

Yet another study shows linkage between dumbassness and conservatism.

Conservatism and cognitive ability are negatively correlated. The evidence is based on 1254 community college students and 1600 foreign students seeking entry to United States' universities. At the individual level of analysis, conservatism scores correlate negatively with SAT, Vocabulary, and Analogy test scores. At the national level of analysis, conservatism scores correlate negatively with measures of education (e.g., gross enrollment at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels) and performance on mathematics and reading assessments from the PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) project. They also correlate with components of the Failed States Index and several other measures of economic and political development of nations. Conservatism scores have higher correlations with economic and political measures than estimated IQ scores.

This time it’s all about cognitive ability. The results seem to be strikingly similar in all the studies that come out. There’s more stupidity in the conservative camp. Surprised? Not so much.

  1. That's why I call them stupid republicans...lol They have really failed miserably this time and have completely imploded.

You know it's bad when one of them starts yelling at the others.

  2. I think this is the main reason that Rethuglicans don't want any tax dolars spent on education. The smarter the masses are, the less likely they are to support a conservatard agenda.

The sure do love to brag that they are smarter than everyone else and therefore know what's best for everyone.

  3. Yeah, I think when you have an ideology based on fear, it's going to attract those of lower cognitive abilities and it's frustrating because they think the way to win an argument is just to talk louder and say no and then mumble something about socialism.

Yesterday, I saw a bumper sticker that read: Impeach Obama - Send Him Back to Iran.

Ok, they don't like Obama and they want to pretend he's a terrorist or something, but aren't they even smart enough to come up with a witty anti-Obama sticker?

  4. I can't actually imagine a witty anti-Obama sticker. He doesn't lend himself to effective mockery, which is driving them even more nuts.

  5. Not to mention that the self-servatives™ have no sense of humor and are totally devoid of wit.

If they want witty bumper stickers they'll have to hire some liberals to write them.

The whole notion of being able to think out of the box is something conservatives abhor. Conservatives resist change. Thinking outside the box is an ideological violation. If we really had natural selection for humans, the conservatards would be the first to dissappeare. They completely lack the ability to adapt to change so they insist on no change.

  6. Cheney is demonstrating on a daily basis what it means to be a conservative. I think his congnitive powers may be decreasing minute by minute.
